$135,000.00/yr - $145,000.00/yr

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce/ Visitor & Convention Bureau (HHIBCoC) is a non-profit, membership-based, economic engine, accredited Chamber of Commerce, and Destination Marketing Organization (DMO). We proudly represent and serve Southern Beaufort County, the Town of Hilton Head Island, and Town of Bluffton, South Carolina, the hospitality industry, and hundreds of small businesses within our region. As the official DMO, our mission is to maximize Southern Beaufort County’s Visitor Economy by developing and promoting exceptional visitor experiences to elevate the quality of life and prosperity for our communities through our websites (our virtual “front door”), events, advocacy, educational programming, and initiatives.

Position Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Visitor & Convention Bureau the Director of Sales manages all aspects of the Meeting & Groups department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for strong b2b relationships, building group sales programs, qualified leads and generating hotel room nights. This position will develop, effectively establish, and grow long-term relationships with key partners to ensure the overall health of this industry segment. They will be outgoing, people oriented, collaborative and will have the ability, and drive, to take initiative. The position requires high energy, innovation, and a solution-oriented demeanor. The Director of Sales is a strategic leader that serves as the ambassador for the Meetings and Groups segment for the Hilton Head Island region.

Position Scope:

This position works in coordination with the Vice President of the Visitor & Convention Bureau to ensure an effective and integrated hotel sales and customer relationship program that fulfills established strategic objectives. This position interacts with members of the Hotel, Restaurant, Excursion and Attraction tourism segments as well as the business community at large. This position represents the Hilton Head Island region at national conferences and tradeshows, as well as on local, state, regional and national boards, committees, and events.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Actively seek, work, and manage sales leads and serve as organization point of contact for all group segments/markets
  2. Analyze, monitor, and provide sales reports on department performance, including leads, confirmed bookings, lost business etc.
  3. Analyze new business opportunities by business sectors, market segments, seasonality, patterns, and overall value
  4. Maintain well informed knowledge of competition, industry trends, and best practices
  5. Maximize CRM platform; lead lists, notes, reporting etc.
  6. Work closely with marketing and research staff members as well as agency to create various performance reporting documents; weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  7. Ability to communicate complex concepts, report findings/ results, and trends in clear and concise manner
  8. Lead monthly Director of Sales and Marketing meetings to report out on performance and trends as well as hear from hotel partners
  9. Develop, lead, and manage a direct sales program with a focus on building qualified leads and awareness of our region within this segment
  10. Develop and manage comprehensive Meetings & Groups programs; establish budgets, monitor, and track impact, results and trends
  11. Provide leadership and direction and act as a mentor to further the development and growth of the department
  12. Work closely with the Vice President, Visitor & Convention Bureau to develop integrated processes and procedures
  13. Work closely with Hotel Partners on in-market events, FAMs, and new opportunities
  14. Travel will be required
  15. Manage all programs and incentives
  16. Public speaking and presenting

Knowledge & Skill Set:

  1. Think strategically as well as tactically
  2. Build effective consensus within a diverse team
  3. Understanding financial management, budgeting, and resource management
  4. Lead development and execution of sales plans, sales skills, and sales strategies
  5. Detailed knowledge of regional product offerings
  6. Strong knowledge of tourism and sales industry

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory capacity with hands on experience in Marketing /Sales – preferably within the travel and tourism industry
  2. Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications as well as Google and CRM platforms
  3. Willingness and availability to travel
  4. Ability to attend work events; before work and after work functions
