DESCRIPTION OF EMPLOYER: Founded in 1901, Feeser’s, Inc. is a family owned and operated full-line foodservice distributor located in Harrisburg, PA servicing the Mid-Atlantic region. Feeser’s provides an expansive offering of dry, refrigerated, and frozen products to a diverse customer base comprised of restaurants, healthcare facilities, educational facilities, and other institutions.
SUMMARY: The Director of Purchasing will drive operational excellence in Feeser’s supply chain by developing and executing a strategy focused on the efficient procurement of quality, cost competitive products for Feeser’s customers, while carefully managing the cost of carrying inventory. He/she will directly supervise and provide oversight to approximately 10 employees.
Success in this role will be demonstrated by reducing Feeser’s material costs while improving quality, optimizing vendor delivery performance, and choosing the vendors to provide the best solutions to support Feeser’s sustained growth and profitability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the corporate leader in process review and process development to ensure Feeser’s maintains industry best practices in all aspects of sourcing.
Support operations using best practices to drive efficiency in the quoting, purchasing, shipping, and receiving processes.
Develop SOPs to measure performance of the supply chain operation and provide reports to leadership on execution.
Develop and implement inventory management and control strategies to reduce costs while meeting customer service requirements.
Ensure Buyers negotiate with vendors to achieve best category pricing and efficient logistics.
Drive and support supplier scorecards and supplier risk assessment programs.
Hire, train, coach, and manage an integrated purchasing team establishing performance standards, evaluating individual and team performance, ensuring company policies are adhered to, and meeting leadership goals.
Regularly monitor news media outlets, market periodicals, and other sources of industry information to gain further insight into materials cost characteristics.
Instills a culture of customer service and stewardship of resources.
All other duties as assigned by management.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Possesses an advanced, in-depth knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, sourcing, contract management and supplier management.
Well versed in demand forecasting and inventory management models coupled with data analysis and critical thinking skills.
A demonstrated skilled negotiator and relationship builder.
A strong manager experienced in training, motivating and team building skills.
An energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards.
Demonstrated ability to manage in a company culture based on integrity, motivation, family and customer first values.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Experience preferred in wholesale food distribution.
Track record of leading process improvements in the areas of supply planning & replenishment
Highly experienced user of key performance indicators to manage all aspects of sourcing.
Experienced with ERP systems (Oracle), purchasing and replenishment systems.
Bachelor’s degree in relevant major along with 10+ years of procurement/sourcing experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift equipment up to 10 pounds.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Must possess visual acuity, i.e., close, distance, and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust.
