A leading company is seeking a Director of Strategic Sourcing to enhance sourcing activities across its locations. The role focuses on optimizing supplier relationships, cost savings, and implementing best practices in procurement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in manufacturing and leadership, with strong negotiation and problem-solving skills. This remote position requires 30% travel to various sites.
Remote position supporting all Alcom Locations with 30% travel.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Strategic Sourcing role is responsible for the development of sourcing activities for the ALCOM LLC group. The primary focus will be on delivering products and services at a high quality, with the lowest cost of ownership, while minimizing volatility. This will be achieved through the continuous development of our supply base and the creation of best practices within our purchasing team. This includes but is not limited to leading cost savings and avoidance projects, maximizing supplier VA/VE, mitigating risks, creating diversity and other sourcing-related activities. This position will lead negotiations of purchasing agreements and other contracts, which include pricing, terms and conditions, risk mitigation, and warranties. The Director of Strategic Sourcing will develop, implement, and manage global strategies to provide value in supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality, delivery performance, and lead time management. This position will benchmark new processes, approaches, and technology that provide improvements and value to ALCOM. Additionally, this role will research, identify and analyze current and emerging procurement trends, develop a deep understanding of market conditions, and develop proposed global supply chain solutions.
FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drive standardization of processes and procedures, transaction methods with suppliers, supplier selection processes / ongoing supplier management, data collection, negotiation, performance improvement, cost reduction and communication strategies…while facilitating various needs and operational requirements.
Work directly with plant operations and engineering to develop strategic targets for make vs buy projects.
Lead and develop a team that exudes excellence.
Monitor macro trends in supplier and contract base and implement plans to react.
Build and develop relationships with key suppliers.
Source the best possible market prices while meeting or exceeding quality and delivery standards
Develop and nurture positive and rewarding relationships with suppliers.
Study market prices and trends to make educated buying decisions related to new sourcing targets.
Analyze risks and implement risk mitigation plans.
Engage with internal customers to understand their business context, define needs, and build the portfolio of purchasing projects to be delivered by order of priority (80/20 approach)
Provide analysis of spend data and market trends to prioritize and launch sourcing initiatives within designated spend categories.
Manage buying resource(s) to execute development of projects; RFQ’s, pay term negotiations, LTA’s, data pulls and project timelines.
Have a goal of business partnering, with the strategic and operational levels ensuring a collaborative and innovative relationship with internal customers and suppliers.
Negotiate pricing, stocking agreements, discounts, rebates, and terms with a bias for achievement of quality, delivery, cost containment and process improvement.
Deliver excellence in sourcing activities, including post-contract evaluations.
Become a subject matter expert in relevant commodities through external research, benchmarking, and analyzing cost drivers and life cycle costs.
Work extensively with enterprise procurement, operations teams, functional leaders, and other key stakeholders to ensure their engagement and support to gain feedback and to communicate the progress of the programs. This includes managing stakeholder communication regarding category performance and other key information.
Develop and maintain systematic, analytical, and results-based methods for monitoring suppliers’ performance and communicate these results to the suppliers and end users. Provide timely and actionable information for corrective actions to be taken where necessary to both the supplier and end users.
Represent ALCOM LLC at trade shows, supplier events or various industry events.
Other duties as required.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, engineering or supply chain, and proven years of experience can be substituted for a lack of degree.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proven critical thinking skills and long term/strategic vision.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job operates as remote but with 30% travel to enterprise and supplier sites. Requiring visits to production floor and office areas. This role uses standard office equipment. Use of proper PPE is required.
