Job description

Director of Power Generation / Energy Operations
Location:

Louisiana Headquarters | Regular Travel to Abilene, TX

Compensation:

Executive-Level Base + Significant Performance Bonus

Industry:

Oil & Gas | Energy | Power Generation | EPC/EPCM | Midstream | Energy Infrastructure

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a growing, established energy infrastructure organization seeking a Director of Power Generation to serve as a senior strategic and operational leader within its expanding Power Generation division.

This is not a traditional Project Director or Senior Project Manager position. We are looking for a highly accomplished energy executive who can operate as a strategic partner to ownership and executive leadership, while simultaneously providing the operational, financial and technical oversight required to successfully build and scale a major business division.

The right individual will bring significant experience within the Oil & Gas, Energy, EPC/EPCM, Power Generation, Pipeline, Midstream, Refining or broader Energy Infrastructure markets and possess the credibility to engage with sophisticated owners, clients, engineers, contractors and executive stakeholders.

This individual will be headquartered through the organization's Louisiana operations and must be comfortable with regular travel to Abilene, Texas, as well as project sites and client locations as business needs require.

What You’ll Do

You will take executive-level ownership of the Power Generation division, helping determine how the organization is structured, staffed, managed and scaled.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to ownership and executive leadership, helping establish the long-term direction, operating model and growth strategy of the Power Generation division.
  • Provide executive oversight across a portfolio of complex energy and power-generation projects from initial opportunity and planning through execution, financial performance and client delivery.
  • Lead through Project Managers, Superintendents and other senior project leaders rather than functioning as the day-to-day PM on an individual project.
  • Develop the organizational structure, policies, processes, reporting standards and operating discipline necessary to scale the division.
  • Own divisional financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, project controls, margin protection, cash flow, cost-to-complete and overall project profitability.
  • Review project health across schedule, cost, manpower, procurement, subcontractors, milestones, risk, change orders and client commitments.
  • Evaluate estimates, bids and front-end project plans to determine whether opportunities are properly priced, executable and financially attractive.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of project schedules and critical-path information, including Primavera P6/CPM scheduling and project-controls data.
  • Partner with engineering, procurement, construction, vendors and subcontractors to resolve issues impacting cost, schedule, quality or project execution.
  • Lead commercial and contractual discussions involving scope changes, schedule impacts, client negotiations, subcontractor agreements and financial exposure.
  • Build trusted relationships with owners and clients while participating in strategic discussions around project performance, future capital programs and additional opportunities.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop Project Managers, Superintendents and future leaders while creating a strong leadership bench capable of supporting continued growth.
  • Oversee manpower and resource planning across multiple projects and geographic locations.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, contractual, financial, safety and execution risks.
  • Support business development through executive relationships, industry knowledge and identification of future opportunities.
  • Maintain sufficient field presence to remain connected to project execution while continuing to operate at the broader division and executive level.
What We’re Looking For

This position requires significantly more than project-management experience. We are seeking an educated, technically credible and commercially sophisticated energy leader who understands how large capital projects are built, managed and monetized.

Required Experience
  • Extensive progressive leadership experience within Oil & Gas, Energy, Power Generation, EPC/EPCM, Midstream, Refining, Pipeline or major Energy Infrastructure environments.
  • Significant experience overseeing large-scale capital projects and/or portfolios of projects.
  • Prior leadership responsibility for Project Managers, Superintendents, project-controls professionals and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Deep understanding of the full project lifecycle — estimating, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout.
  • Strong financial acumen with direct responsibility for project budgets, forecasting, cash flow, margin, cost controls and project profitability.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, CPM scheduling, critical path, cost-to-complete forecasting and executive project reporting.
  • Experience negotiating with clients, owners, subcontractors and other sophisticated commercial stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify project risks early and drive corrective action.
  • Experience building teams, operating structures, business units, regional operations or project-delivery organizations.
  • Ability to operate comfortably between the boardroom and the field — communicating with ownership one moment and addressing complex execution issues with project leadership the next.
Education & Credentials

A strong academic and technical foundation is important for this position.

Preferred backgrounds include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Energy or a related technical discipline.
  • Advanced engineering, technical or business education strongly preferred.
  • MBA, Master's in Engineering/Engineering Management or similar graduate education is highly attractive.
  • PMP, PE/EIT or comparable professional credentials are a plus.
Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will be:

Strategic. Able to think beyond today's projects and help determine what the division should look like several years from now.

Commercially sophisticated. Comfortable discussing contracts, margins, project economics, capital investment and client strategy.

Technically credible. Deep enough within the energy industry to earn immediate credibility with engineers, operators, project executives and clients.

A builder. Energized by creating organizations, developing leaders, implementing structure and improving how a business operates.

Executive-minded. Capable of advising ownership while taking accountability for results.

Hands-on when necessary. Willing to travel, visit project sites and step into difficult execution challenges without becoming buried in the daily responsibilities of a single project.

Location & Travel

This position will be aligned with the company’s Louisiana headquarters, with regular travel to Abilene, Texas and other project/client locations as required.

Candidates do not necessarily need to relocate immediately, but they must be genuinely comfortable with the travel requirements and maintaining a meaningful presence with both executive leadership and field operations.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced energy executive who has spent years successfully running projects and teams and is now looking for the opportunity to build something larger.

Rather than stepping into an already mature organization and maintaining an existing structure, you will have the ability to influence:

  • Financial and reporting discipline
  • Processes and procedures
  • Long-term growth
Benefits and Compensation:
  • Base plus percentage of the net of all Power Generation Division Projects
  • Performance-based divisional bonus opportunity
  • Medical insurance with company contribution
  • 401(k) with company match beginning January 2027
  • Seven paid holidays
  • Weekly phone allowance
  • Company vehicle or $1,200/month vehicle allowance
  • Company-paid business travel, lodging and meals
  • Executive housing accommodations available for required travel
  • Fuel card for approved project-related travel
  • Significant long-term growth opportunity within an expanding Power Generation division

For the right leader, this is an opportunity to leave a meaningful mark on a developing business division and operate as a true strategic partner to executive leadership. We look forward to your application!
