Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead the accurate, compliant delivery of payroll for United States employees. The role oversees end-to-end processing, tax filings, systems management, internal controls, and vendor relationships across the organization.

You will partner with Human Resources, Accounting, Legal, and Total Rewards to develop payroll strategy, optimize scalable processes, and ensure multi-state compliance and related regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
• 8+ years payroll experience, with 3+ in leadership.
• Experience in multi-state payroll and tax compliance.
• Hands-on with major payroll HRIS platforms.
• Strong knowledge of FLSA and payroll tax rules.
• Advanced Excel for large datasets.
• Discretion with confidential compensation data.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end processing of semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls for US employees, including bonuses, commissions, equity events, retro pay, and off-cycle payrolls.
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule with proper review controls.
• Administer wage garnishments, deductions, imputed income, reimbursements, and fringe benefit taxation.
• Manage year-end payroll activities including W-2 and 1099 preparation and reconciliations.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
• Oversee payroll tax registration, filings, reconciliations, and audits across jurisdictions.
• Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
• Build and monitor payroll metrics and reporting for leadership.
