Job summary

Cook County Health seeks a Director of Patient Flow to lead clinical support, improve patient throughput, and ensure regulatory compliance. This role oversees admission flow, bed management, and performance metrics, driving interdepartmental collaboration and continuous improvement across nursing units.

The position requires extensive nursing leadership, strong communication, and a proven track record in optimizing patient access within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois (or obtain within two weeks of starting)
• BSN from an accredited program
• MSN from an accredited program
• Five years of Nursing experience in an Emergency Department and inpatient setting as a supervisor/manager/nurse coordinator
• Two years overseeing patient flow

Responsibilities

• Direct, manage, and analyze patient flow across Cook County Health
• Monitor daily patient movement and bed supply/demand
• Make placement decisions using diagnosis, infection control, and care needs
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize patient access and throughput
• Coordinate departmental activities and ensure adequate staffing for admissions
• Collaborate with nursing leadership to standardize admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Improve hospital throughput and define KPIs for performance
