Job Title: Director of EPC – DG Solar + BESS

About the Company

NextGrid is a leading independent power producer (IPP) specializing in distributed generation (DG) solar and battery energy storage projects. We develop, finance, build, own, and operate a growing portfolio of solar and BESS projects ranging from 500 kW to 20 MWac.

Position Summary:

The Director of EPC will be responsible for end-to-end oversight of all engineering, procurement, and construction functions for our DG solar + BESS projects. This individual will build and manage a high-performing EPC organization, establish standardized processes, manage third-party contractors and vendors, and ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of high-quality assets.

The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of PV and energy storage systems, strong project execution experience, and a track record of delivering multiple distributed generation projects across varied regulatory and interconnection landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Execution

• Lead and scale the EPC function across the company’s DG solar + BESS portfolio, including managing internal and third-party Project Managers.
• Develop standardized project delivery workflows, QA/QC protocols, and safety procedures.
• Own and manage project delivery from NTP through COD, ensuring schedule, budget, and performance objectives are met.
• Oversee internal and external engineering teams (electrical, civil, structural).
• Review and approve design packages for technical soundness and compliance with AHJ, utility, and permitting requirements.
• Drive design optimization for cost, reliability, and constructability.

Procurement Management

• Establish sourcing strategies for major equipment (modules, inverters, racking, batteries).
• Negotiate contracts and framework agreements with suppliers and vendors.
• Manage long-lead procurement logistics and delivery schedules.

Construction Management

• Hire, qualify, and manage EPC contractors and subcontractors.
• Monitor construction progress, change orders, and field issue resolution.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure workmanship quality and safety compliance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Development, Finance, Legal, and Asset Management teams to support project planning, budgeting, permitting, and handover.
• Participate in risk assessment, interconnection review, and utility coordination activities.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field; advanced degree a plus.
• 10+ years of experience in utility-scale or DG solar project delivery, including 5+ years managing EPC teams.
• Direct experience managing BESS integration in solar projects.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, UL, and other relevant codes/standards.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi-site projects with concurrent timelines.
• Excellent negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder communication skills.

Preferred:

• PE license or PMP certification.
• Experience in interconnection processes with multiple utilities.
• Familiarity with project development, permitting, and financial close processes for solar+BESS assets.
