Job description

Position: Director of Nursing, Perioperative

The Director of Nursing, Perioperative, coordinates activities and organizational initiatives that enable VCU Health System to be recognized within the healthcare community for excellence in nursing and continued recognition as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

The Director is responsible for implementing, communicating, monitoring, and evaluating professional practices, activities, and strategies.

This role requires strong leadership experience and a unique combination of clinical expertise, including hands-on experience in both the Operating Room (OR) and Endoscopy. Success depends on understanding the nuances of the complex, procedure-driven environment of the OR and the fast-paced, appointment-based flow of Endoscopy, which is critical for effective team leadership and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligibility for licensure in a compact state.

Experience

• Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant clinical experience.
• At least five (5) years of progressive leadership or management experience.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in an academic medical center environment.

Education and Training

• Masters Degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited school. If the Masters is not in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school is required.

Additional Requirements

• Independently handle daily operations of the unit, seeking advice from the Leadership Team on major issues.
• Full authority and accountability for actions within the scope of the position and hospital policies.
• Frequent visibility on all shifts and weekends to communicate with staff and monitor effectiveness.

Physical and Emotional Requirements

• Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motions.
• Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, and logical thinking.
