Job summary

Altera Health & Rehabilitation seeks a skilled Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our clinical team in Fairhope, Alabama. The DON will drive resident-centered care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and strong operational performance across nursing services.

The ideal candidate brings Alabama RN licensure in good standing, prior DON or senior leadership experience, and a background in skilled nursing or post-acute care.

Qualifications

• Active Alabama Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Previous Director of Nursing or senior nursing leadership experience.
• Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute care is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead nursing leadership and direct-care teams.
• Oversee clinical services, resident care, and nursing department operations.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Promote quality outcomes and continuous clinical improvement.
• Partner with the Nursing Home Administrator and interdisciplinary team.
• Support recruitment, retention, orientation, and development of nursing staff.
• Monitor staffing, clinical documentation, infection prevention, and resident safety.
• Build positive relationships with residents, families, employees, and community partners.

What You Will Do

The Director of Nursing will provide leadership and direction for all nursing services while promoting excellent resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead, mentor, and support the nursing leadership and direct-care teams

• Oversee clinical services, resident care, and nursing department operations

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

• Promote strong quality outcomes and continuous clinical improvement

• Partner closely with the Nursing Home Administrator and interdisciplinary team

• Support recruitment, retention, orientation, and development of nursing staff

• Monitor staffing, clinical documentation, infection prevention, and resident safety

• Build positive relationships with residents, families, employees, and community partners

• Create a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and accountable

What We Are Looking For

• Current Alabama Registered Nurse license in good standing

• Previous Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or senior nursing leadership experience

• Skilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute care experience strongly preferred

• Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and clinical compliance standards

• Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain successful nursing teams

• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

• A hands-on leadership style with a commitment to teamwork and resident-centered care
