Job Title: Director of Nursing – Behavioral Health

Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Must be flexible for additional hours)

Reports to: Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services / CNO

Position Type:

Position Summary:

Seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nursing – Behavioral Health to provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing services within the behavioral health division. This role is pivotal in ensuring quality patient care, compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of excellence in psychiatric and behavioral health nursing.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity and requires a leader with both administrative expertise and clinical knowledge to guide and support nursing teams in delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the SVP of Patient Care Services to establish the nursing department’s philosophy and goals.
• Supervise Assistant Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers, and Administrative Nursing Coordinators.
• Ensure adequate and effective staffing plans to maintain safe patient care.
• Oversee recruitment, hiring, and retention efforts for nursing personnel.
• Ensure compliance with NYSDOH, JCAHO, and all applicable regulatory agencies.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets in collaboration with executive leadership.
• Foster professional development and continuous learning for nursing staff.
• Lead disciplinary and counseling processes in accordance with hospital policy.
• Represent the nursing department on internal committees and interdisciplinary teams.
• Enhance patient satisfaction by establishing service improvement goals and HCAHPS outcomes.
• Communicate hospital and departmental goals clearly to staff.
• Ensure administrative coverage and leadership presence in nursing as needed.
• Implement innovative best practices in behavioral health nursing care.

Requirements:

• Active New York State RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• TRUST Certification (Must be willing to obtain onsite)
• Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field OR Minimum of 10 years of relevant administrative/supervisory experience

Preferred Education:

Doctorate in Nursing or Healthcare Leadership
