Salary range $95,000 to $125,000 a year
JOB DESCRIPTION

Must be available on a 24-hour basis as needed for guidance of resident and staff needs. Requires good human relations and communication skills. Needs to be assertive and motivated to be effective in management.

Must have the ability to initiate specific nursing judgments in individual patient care treatments. Must ensure the nursing department meets the requirements set forth in Federal and State regulations. Requires the capacity to participate in various departmental roles, including clinician, educator, personnel manager, and quality controller.

Responsible for the overall management of the facility when the administrator is not on the premises or unavailable. Salary $95,000 to $125,000 based on experience.

OBJECTIVE

To provide the pinnacle of excellence in patient care by establishing a professional philosophy of gerontological nursing. The nursing service maintains a qualified staff to meet the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of all patients. The Director of Nursing is responsible for establishing the overall objectives of nursing and providing administrative guidance and support for facility goals, policies, and the chain of command.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish objectives, plans, and programs
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Define and assign responsibilities
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical directors
  • Evaluate and audit departmental operations
  • Assess staff development needs
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention programs
  • Oversee care planning and delivery techniques
  • Counsel and promote staff development; perform team member evaluations
  • Serve as a role model and share new knowledge
  • Monitor safety and cleanliness; collect data on unusual occurrences
  • Ensure staff competency and health
  • Counsel families and patients, and resolve issues as needed
  • Function as resident care coordinator
  • Conduct chart audits according to schedule, including new admissions and unstable conditions
  • Make daily nursing rounds at 9:30 a.m. to confirm census, staffing, and monitor patient environment
  • Handle calls-off Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and manage staff replacements for improved patient care
  • Address documentation needs from doctors for team members with frequent call-offs or patterns
  • Manage tardiness and lateness issues, initiate disciplinary actions as needed
  • Write daily flow sheets accurately and ensure appropriate staffing
  • Create biweekly schedules considering vacations, days off, birthdays, and personal days
  • Manage absentee slips and confirm staff availability
  • Handle personal requests and document changes in staffing and data
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current license in the practicing state
  • Management skills: planning, organizing, directing, controlling
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills
  • Gerontological certification to be achieved within two years
