Job description

THIS POSITION IS 100% REMOTE

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Membership to lead and execute a data-driven growth strategy for NASSP individual membership and its ecosystem student leadership programs, including the National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, National Elementary Honor Society and National Student Council.

The Director of Membership will lead a team charged with growing NASSP membership and expanding our student leadership programs through savvy and effective acquisition and retention strategies. The ideal candidate is data-driven, results-oriented, and thrives in a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This person should be willing to develop a deep understanding of K-12 schools, and be enthusiastic about education, and excited about working to transform education through school leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Recruitment, Retention & Chapter Support

  • Develop and execute a data-driven strategy for member acquisition, retention, and chapter development, including value audits and value propositions.
  • Establish measurable and attainable goals for membership and chapter growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and chapter leaders to design compelling campaigns and outreach strategies.
  • Develop resources and provide guidance to chapters and state affiliates to support capacity building and local recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.
  • Ensure alignment with NASSP core values and strategic objectives in all chapter and membership-related activities.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Analyze member and chapter data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Collaborate across departments to enhance reporting capabilities and actionable insights.
  • Provide weekly top-line reports and analysis for the Chief Membership Officer.
  • Develop monthly membership performance summaries for the executive team and quarterly updates for the Board of Directors.
  • Develop capacity reports for state associations and quarterly performance summaries for state teams and leadership.

State and Chapter Coordination & Relations

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with state associations, district entities, regional chapters, and key local leaders.
  • Identify opportunities for capacity building support, joint recruitment, retention, and engagement campaigns, and other partnership opportunities at the chapter and state level.
  • Host regular virtual meetings and strategy sessions for state and chapter representatives, offering feedback loop opportunities, training, capacity building support, and space for peer learning.
  • Track, analyze, and update state and chapter membership fees, benefits, and affiliation agreements to ensure consistency and alignment.
  • Evaluate and monitor dues reconciliation and other transactional processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Team & Operations Management

  • Recruit, coach, and develop the membership team to achieve both organizational and individual growth goals.
  • Manage the annual membership budget and ensure alignment with strategy and operations.
  • Oversee membership operations, including coordination with external vendors and contractors (e.g., mail vendors, contract support, insurance providers).
  • Lead the procurement and communication of high-value members and chapter benefits.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience include the following:

Experience

THIS POSITION IS 100% REMOTE

  • 6+ years of experience in membership management, chapter relations, business development, or related field.
  • Direct experience growing membership and strengthening member retention or experience with NASSP membership and/or NASSP student leadership programs preferred.
  • Direct experience working with chapters to build capacity, enhance recruitment & retention and optimize local influence.
  • Experience supporting chapter relations and managing affiliate partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and leveraging data to inform strategy development and decision making.
  • Utilizes data to set goals and/or meet key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing comprehensive budgets.
  • Commitment to building and supporting a positive team culture and working environment.
  • Experience with association management software (AMS) or learning management systems (LMS) preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Former school leadership or principal experience is a plus but is not required.
  • Domestic travel will be required for all NASSP events (25%).

Salary Range: 135,000 - 155,000 USD Annually

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
