Job summary

Anthropic is seeking a Director, Technical Accounting – M&A to join our Finance team in San Francisco. You will lead complex M&A and strategic investment accounting, ensuring GAAP-compliant handling of deal structures and consolidation., collaborating with Corporate Development, Legal, Tax and Treasury to reflect deal economics accurately.

You will help build controls, policy memos, and close-ready processes for a large accelerated filer, reporting to Senior Director, Technical Accounting – M&A.

Qualifications

• 10+ years progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years owning complex M&A and strategic investment accounting transactions end-to-end.
• Active CPA license.
• Big 4 experience with National Office, Transaction/Deal Advisory, or Capital Markets/Accounting Advisory, plus in-house tech company experience.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP for business combinations, consolidation, equity method, and fair value.

Responsibilities

• Execute technical accounting for business combinations, asset acquisitions, joint ventures, and related financing/equity structures.
• Partner with Corporate Dev to steer deal structures toward preferred terms and outcomes.
• Perform accounting due diligence on prospective transactions and advise on GAAP, controls and earnings implications before terms are finalized.
• Execute end-to-end purchase accounting including identification, measurement, and recognition of assets, liabilities, and goodwill.
• Prepare and review transaction-related disclosures for quarterly/annual filings and pro forma information.
• Present accounting conclusions and financial statement impacts to leadership in clear, decision-ready terms.
