Job description

Atlantic FCU is hiring a Director of Learning & Development in South Portland.

Description
Develop People. Strengthen Leaders. Shape the Future.

At Atlantic FCU, we believe our success starts with our people. We’re seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Learning & Development to lead organization-wide learning initiatives that build employee capability, strengthen leadership effectiveness, and support our continued growth.

This isn’t a department to build from scratch; it’s a thriving one with real momentum. Our current Director is stepping up into a new role, and we’re looking for the next leader to keep raising the bar: growing the team, developing our people, and shaping where learning goes next.

This is more than a training role. As Director of Learning & Development, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to leaders across the organization, helping translate business goals into impactful learning experiences that drive performance, engagement, and career growth. You’ll have the opportunity to influence organizational culture, develop future leaders, and create innovative development strategies that prepare our workforce for tomorrow.

What You’ll Do
Lead Learning Strategy:
  • Design and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee programming that supports employee onboarding, compliance, professional development, and ongoing skill enhancement.
  • Evaluate organizational learning needs and implement scalable solutions that improve performance and business results.
  • Lead leadership development initiatives that build capability at all levels of the organization.
  • Coach leaders and provide guidance on employee growth, engagement, and performance improvement.
  • Identify talent development opportunities and organizational skill gaps to help prepare the workforce for future needs.
Manage & Develop the Training Team:
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the Learning & Development team.
  • Establish priorities, measure results, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure learning programs remain effective, relevant, and aligned with business expectations.
Drive Organizational Effectiveness:
  • Partner with leaders across departments to observe performance trends and recommend development solutions.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and organizational change efforts.
  • Ensure learning programs align with regulatory requirements and evolving business needs.
Facilitate Training Governance:
  • Lead the Training Committee and promote collaboration across business lines.
  • Coordinate enterprise learning resources, educational opportunities, and professional development offerings.
  • Maintain training materials and resources to reflect procedural and operational updates.

Atlantic is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Requirements
Required Experience:
  • 5-8 years of learning & development, training, organizational development, talent development, or related leadership experience.
  • Experience leading teams and driving enterprise-wide learning initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence leaders and build relationships across multiple departments.
Education:
  • Associate degree, specialized certification, professional credential, apprenticeship-based training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

We’re looking for a leader who demonstrates:

  • Strategic thinking and business acumen
  • Strong coaching and leadership development skills
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities
  • Relationship-building and collaboration
  • Change leadership and adaptability
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
