Job summary

Fervo Energy, a leader in geothermal technology, seeks a Director of Software Engineering to own the internal application architecture and build AI-enabled software that scales with the business. You will lead a team of engineers, collaborate with stakeholders, and shape the product roadmap while delivering durable systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years in technical leadership or engineering management.
• Production-full stack or backend applications in cloud environments.
• Strong backend fundamentals: languages, API design, auth patterns.
• Experience deploying AI/automation features into production.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage roadmaps, and prioritize tradeoffs.
• Ability to translate ambiguous needs into software requirements and deployed systems.

Responsibilities

• Own internal application architecture and security.
• Build business-facing software products: dashboards, reporting, automation, AI-enabled apps.
• Embed with drilling engineers, wellfield operators, and plant technicians to iterate MVPs.
• Lead a product-oriented engineering model translating business needs into software.
• Hire, manage, and grow full-stack and backend engineers; establish standards.
• Advance AI-enabled software capabilities and practical tooling.
• Set engineering standards for CI/CD, testing, documentation, and observability.
• Manage vendor and integration relationships for internal ecosystem.
