Job summary

Fervo Energy in Colorado is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to build and lead the internal application layer, reporting to the CTO, and owning architecture, roadmaps, and delivery for software products supporting the business. This role blends energy infrastructure, data, and AI to improve workflows, data access, and decision-making across teams as the company scales.

You will lead a product-focused engineering team with strong collaboration across engineering, data, IT, and business

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role.
• Experience building and deploying production full-stack/backend apps in cloud environments.
• Strong backend fundamentals: modern languages, API design, auth, and integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience with data platforms or enterprise systems integration.
• Experience deploying AI/ML or automation features into production.

Responsibilities

• Own the internal application architecture including patterns, boundaries, and security.
• Lead development of internal software that improves workflows and decision making.
• Embed with operational teams to prototype and ship MVPs into live environments.
• Build a product-oriented engineering model working with business stakeholders.
• Hire, mentor, and grow a high-leverage software team and establish engineering standards.
• Advance AI-enabled software capabilities and practical tooling for production use.
• Manage vendor and integration relationships supporting the internal app ecosystem.
