Position Summary

BOXABL is seeking an experienced and highly organized Director of Installation to lead and oversee the company's installation operations, including BOXABL installation crews, subcontractors, field supervisors, and installation partners.

The Director of Installation will be responsible for ensuring that BOXABL units are delivered, installed, completed, and turned over to customers safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with BOXABL's quality standards.

This position will have direct responsibility for the performance and development of installation crews and subcontractors and will serve as the primary operational leader for field installation activities.

The ideal candidate has significant experience managing construction or installation operations, including both employees and subcontractors, and understands the challenges associated with coordinating multiple trades, schedules, materials, equipment, permits, site conditions, and customers.

Essential Responsibilities
Installation Operations
  • Lead and manage all BOXABL installation operations.
  • Oversee installation crews, field supervisors, subcontractors, and third-party installation partners.
  • Establish and maintain standardized installation procedures, processes, and performance expectations.
  • Develop installation schedules and ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Coordinate installation resources based on project requirements, location, crew availability, and customer commitments.
  • Monitor installation progress from mobilization through final completion and customer turnover.
  • Identify and resolve field issues that could affect schedule, cost, quality, or customer satisfaction.
  • Establish clear accountability for installation performance.
Subcontractor Management
  • Recruit, evaluate, onboard, and manage qualified installation subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable network of installation contractors and specialty trade partners.
  • Establish subcontractor performance standards and service-level expectations.
  • Monitor subcontractor workmanship, productivity, safety, schedule adherence, and customer service.
  • Review subcontractor pricing and scopes of work.
  • Negotiate installation rates and service agreements in coordination with company leadership and Procurement.
  • Hold subcontractors accountable for deficiencies, delays, rework, and warranty-related issues.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation regarding licenses, insurance, certifications, and other contractor requirements.
  • Develop contingency subcontractor resources to support fluctuations in installation volume.
Crew Leadership
  • Directly oversee BOXABL installation crews and field personnel.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop installation employees.
  • Establish productivity and quality expectations for installation teams.
  • Conduct regular field performance reviews and provide corrective coaching when necessary.
  • Create clear career paths and training programs for installation personnel.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, and customer service.
Quality Control
  • Establish and maintain installation quality standards.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and quality audits.
  • Ensure installations meet BOXABL specifications, approved plans, applicable building codes, and company standards.
  • Identify recurring installation defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Reduce installation-related warranty claims, callbacks, and rework.
  • Partner with Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing, Customer Experience, and other departments to resolve recurring field issues.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a strong safety culture across all installation operations.
  • Ensure installation crews and subcontractors follow applicable OSHA requirements and BOXABL safety policies.
  • Ensure appropriate safety procedures are followed for cranes, rigging, transportation, electrical work, plumbing, construction activities, and other field operations.
  • Investigate installation-related accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Ensure required licenses, permits, insurance, and certifications are maintained by employees and subcontractors.
  • Partner with HR and Safety to implement training and corrective-action programs.
Project & Site Coordination
  • Coordinate with Sales, Project Management, Construction, Engineering, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Customer Experience to ensure projects are installation-ready.
  • Verify site readiness before mobilizing installation resources.
  • Ensure required permits, foundations, utilities, site access, equipment, materials, and other prerequisites are in place before installation.
  • Establish installation readiness checklists and approval processes.
  • Coordinate cranes, transportation, equipment, and specialty trades when required.
  • Manage field changes and unexpected site conditions.
Cost & Performance Management
  • Develop and manage the installation department budget.
  • Monitor installation costs against budget and project expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce installation costs without compromising quality or safety.
  • Track labor productivity and subcontractor costs.
  • Develop and monitor installation KPIs and operating metrics.
  • Analyze installation performance and implement continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Provide regular reporting to executive leadership regarding installation volume, costs, productivity, quality, safety, and schedule performance.
Customer Experience
  • Establish installation standards designed to provide a professional customer experience.
  • Assist with escalated installation-related customer issues.
  • Ensure customers receive timely communication regarding installation schedules and project status.
  • Resolve installation deficiencies and customer complaints promptly.
  • Ensure completed installations are properly documented and formally turned over to the customer.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in construction, installation, field operations, modular construction, manufactured housing, residential construction, or a related industry.
  • 3+ years of experience managing installation or construction crews.
  • Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and third-party contractors.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, scheduling, quality control, and field operations.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or installation crews simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and personnel-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Ability to travel as required to support BOXABL installation projects.
Preferred
  • Experience with modular, prefabricated, manufactured, or panelized construction.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed installation network.
  • Experience scaling an installation operation as project volume increases.
  • Experience with cranes, transportation, setting, utility connections, and modular-home installation.
  • Experience negotiating and managing subcontractor agreements.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes and permitting requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
