Job description

About the job

Let's Build!

Tarlton is a St. Louis-based general contractor that builds complex commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. We are an ENR Top 400 contractor and a WBENC-certified Women's Business Enterprise, with self-perform crews, a carpentry subsidiary, and a growing presence across Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa. Our people work in offices, jobsite trailers, and client facilities, and they count on technology that works wherever the work happens. This role offers what larger organizations rarely do: a seat close to the decisions, impact you can see across the whole company, and a family-like culture with the reach to deliver at scale. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, working with the business, and building something that lasts, this is the place to do it.

Your Role

The Director of Information Technology leads Tarlton’s technology function. The role sets technology strategy and priorities, oversees business-critical systems, and is accountable for cybersecurity, data governance, and vendor performance. A managed services provider (MSP) delivers day-to-day infrastructure, support, and technical execution. The Director holds the provider to agreed service levels, works across departments to align technology decisions with business priorities, and assesses future technology team needs as the function matures.

What You’ll Do
Strategy, Governance & Budget
  • Develop and maintain the company’s technology roadmap aligned with business priorities.
  • Manage IT operating and capital budgets.
  • Establish technology standards, policies, and governance processes.
  • Lead the technology intake and review process to evaluate, prioritize, and recommend technology investments across departments.
  • Build consensus and secure stakeholder buy-in for technology priorities and initiatives.
  • Advise executive leadership on emerging technologies, risks, and business opportunities.
Business Systems & Technology Solutions
  • Oversee Tarlton’s business-critical systems, including Viewpoint Vista, Procore, estimating platforms, and other operational applications.
  • Ensure systems are properly configured, maintained, integrated, and aligned with business needs.
  • Partner with functional leaders and system super-users to prioritize enhancements and improvements.
  • Lead software vendor relationships, upgrades, implementations, and optimization efforts.
Data Governance, Analytics & Artificial Intelligence
  • Own data governance, including data quality, data access, and the system integrations that support reliable reporting.
  • Reduce manual processes and support development of a connected business data environment.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for analytics and process automation.
  • Partner with the business process leader on AI initiatives, including evaluation, implementation, governance, user adoption, and development of practical business use cases.
Infrastructure & Managed Services Oversight
  • Manage and direct the MSP that delivers day-to-day network, server, cloud, endpoint, and support services.
  • Establish service expectations and hold providers accountable to agreed service levels.
  • Ensure reliable technology support for corporate offices and project sites.
  • Manage hardware lifecycle planning, mobile technologies, and connectivity needs across the organization.
Cybersecurity, Risk & Business Continuity
  • Own cybersecurity risk, strategy, and policies, with the MSP operating day-to-day security controls.
  • Oversee identity and access management, endpoint protection, incident response, and security awareness efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with client, regulatory, insurance, and contractual security requirements.
  • Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including periodic testing and validation.
Leadership, Adoption & Change Management
  • Lead and develop the internal technology team.
  • Recommend future staffing, organizational structure, and capability needs as the technology function matures.
  • Drive technology adoption through communication, training, and change management initiatives.
  • Partner across departments to improve workflows, business processes, and organizational effectiveness through technology.
Leadership Expectations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
  • Translate technical concepts into practical business solutions.
  • Influence organizational priorities through data, analysis, and sound recommendations.
