Job summary

Suffolk Construction seeks a Director of Estimating to lead the Mission Critical Estimating team in Washington, DC. You will drive bid strategies, develop templates, manage staff, and ensure timely, accurate takeoffs and labor/material estimates for complex projects.

You will partner with senior leadership to set budgets, review market conditions, and mentor estimators, delivering competitive bids while maintaining high quality and safety standards across mission-critical portfolios.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field.
• 10+ years of experience estimating Mission Critical projects.
• Quantity surveys, take-off skills, computer skills.
• Working knowledge of Excel and Word processing programs.
• Ability to work with and manage a team.
• Understanding of Construction Documents specific to Mission Critical projects.
• Knowledge of CSI section contents.
• Ability to read & interpret blueprints for SD, DD and CD phases.
• Coordinate construction document plans and specifications.
• Apply CD details to conceptual documents to capture all cost impacts.

Responsibilities

• Assign Estimating team members to projects and balance staff time.
• Lead bid strategies and develop estimating templates and tools.
• Create monthly estimating reports and track success.
• Prepare detailed takeoffs and labor estimates for pricing.
• Solicit supplier prices and build unit prices with subcontractors.
• Review unit pricing and market conditions influence.
• Ensure on-time delivery of bids and manage bid-day activities.
• Follow up with clients regarding bid results.
