Job summary

Suffolk Construction is seeking an Estimating Manager to lead the Mission Critical Estimating team, drive bid strategies, and deliver accurate bids. You will manage staff, develop templates, and track budgets while coordinating with project teams and suppliers.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Construction degree with 10+ years in Mission Critical estimating, strong Excel/Word skills, and proven leadership in fast-paced environments. On-site role with strategic involvement in bid decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field.
• 10+ years of experience estimating Mission Critical projects.
• Quantity Surveys, Take off skills, Computer Skills.
• Working knowledge of Excel spread sheets, and Word processing programs.
• Ability to work with and manage a team.
• Understanding of Construction Documents specific to Mission Critical projects.
• Knowledge of the contents of each CSI section.
• Ability to read & interpret blue prints in order to understand the scope of work at SD, DD and CD phases of design.
• Ability to coordinate construction document plans, details and specifications.
• Ability to apply CD details to a conceptual set of documents to capture all cost impacts of the details.
• If called to the table or awarded the bid, review the estimate and discuss strategy with the team for any holes, value management, or potential profit pockets

Responsibilities

• Department and Staff Management: Assign Estimating team members to projects; balance and manage time of staff.
• Lead bid strategies and create estimating templates to increase department effectiveness.
• Create monthly estimating reports and track estimating success; manage Mission Critical budget.
• Attend executive staff meetings; develop talent via coaching and annual reviews.
• Prepare detailed take off of materials and organize material and labor information for pricing.
• Solicit material prices from suppliers and compute unit prices.
• Review subcontractor pricing with the Estimator and ensure bid forms align with trade scopes.
• Manage bid day activities and follow up with clients on bid results.
• Identify pre-construction fees and provide strategic recommendations to upper management.
