Job summary

Effingham County is seeking a Director of Engineering / County Engineer to lead the County Engineering Services and supervise division leads and Project Coordinators. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• PE license in Georgia or ability to obtain licensure by comity.
• Minimum seven years of progressively responsible engineering/public works experience.
• Experience managing complex capital projects, contracts, budgets, and schedules.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations applicable to public works.

Responsibilities

• Direct, organize, and evaluate the work of County Engineering Services and supervise division leads and project coordinators.
• Establish departmental priorities, performance expectations, and project assignment practices.
• Oversee capital program delivery, including scope, design, procurement, construction, and turnover.
• Review plans, contracts, and consultant deliverables for quality and compliance.
• Administer and oversee public works contracts and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Identify risks, schedule conflicts, and cost pressures; provide recommendations to leadership.
