Director of Engineering – Valve Delivery Systems

Location: Greater Boston Area (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)

Travel: ~25%

Barrington James have partnered with a cardiology focused venture that incubates and spins out early-stage technologies in the structural heart space.

One of their newest programs, focused on a next-generation tricuspid valve therapy, is preparing for pivotal clinical trials across North America and Europe - and they're building their engineering team to lead the charge.

As Director of Engineering, you’ll take full ownership of the delivery system for a novel implant, supporting the transition from early feasibility through pivotal trials and beyond.

You’ll be the technical authority on delivery mechanics, clinical usability, and manufacturability - and play a key role in shaping future iterations of the platform.

What You’ll Do

• Lead design, development, and iteration of a complex delivery system for a novel heart valve therapy.
• Work hands on through R&D, testing, and integration with implant components.
• Provide clinical support as needed during early-stage procedures; serve as technical liaison with physicians until a Field Support team is in place.
• Drive brainstorming and concept development for next-generation systems.
• Collaborate closely with external contract manufacturing teams - provide clear direction and manage technical deliverables.
• Interface with cross-functional teams (clinical, quality, manufacturing) to ensure systems are trial-ready.
• Ensure scalability and compliance for pivotal trials in the US, Canada, and Europe.

What You’ll Need

• 8–15+ years of experience in mechanical or biomedical engineering, with a focus on implantable delivery systems.
• Strong understanding of cardiovascular implants, especially in valve therapies.
• Proven ability to work in the lab and in the clinic - must be comfortable supporting procedures and speaking with physicians.
• Demonstrated creativity in early-stage development environments; you’re someone who can brainstorm, troubleshoot, and think outside the box.
• Experience working with contract manufacturing partners.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to represent your system in high-stakes settings.
• Prior experience in startups, incubators, or spinouts is a plus.
