Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Manufacturing Engineering team; assign work and provide development opportunities.

Position Overview

The Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership and technical oversight to the engineering team, driving operational excellence across all manufacturing processes. This role spearheads process optimization and facility modernization through targeted equipment and process upgrades. Additionally, they identify and integrate new technologies to enhance safety, production efficiency, and product quality.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a BS degree in manufacturing engineering or related field and minimum of five years of experience leading engineers in a manufacturing industry. Preferred candidates will have experience in sheet metal bending and fabrication, ISO (9000 and 14000) compliant operations and lean/ six sigma certification. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, design and model creation using CAD and solid modeling software (Solid Works preferred)
  • Formal training and/or experience creating manufacturing processes that prioritize operator safety
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to facilitate group problem solving and implementation activities
  • Demonstrated expertise in identifying and integrating cutting-edge engineering methodologies and design trends
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization professionally
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Daily manufacturing engineering support

Process improvement / Root cause identification- manufacturing process

  • Review customer designs and make recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency (Design for Manufacturability)
  • Direct and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team, focusing on Bills of Materials (BOMs), Bills of Operations (BOOs), Product value stream flow and profitability
  • Determine engineering hours and project costs to provide project estimates used in the development of quotes.

Support NPI

  • Collaborate cross functionally within NPI process for customer programs and projects
  • Manage the successful transition of new products and technology into the Operations organization

Marginal Functions

  • Seek and perform alternate, productive tasks to keep busy during unexpected down time
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
