Job summary

Nscale is seeking a U.S.-based Director, Legal (Cybersecurity) to lead cybersecurity counsel work as the company scales publicly. You will partner with the CISO and Security organization, shape legal strategy for incident response, and advise across finance, securities counsel, and investor relations on SEC disclosures.

You'll drive governance across the U.S. and coordinate with the UK/EU for regulatory compliance, contracts, and third-party risk, while guiding senior leadership through complex

Qualifications

• U.S.-qualified attorney with 10+ years of experience, including significant in-house cybersecurity or security counsel experience.
• Proven track record leading legal response to significant security incidents, including privileged investigations and regulator engagement.
• Working knowledge of SEC cybersecurity disclosure requirements and public company governance.
• Strong familiarity with U.S. federal/state cyber and data security laws and international regimes (NIS2, DORA, GDPR security obligations).
• Trusted partner to CISOs and security engineers, translating risk into clear business decisions.
• Independent legal voice while embedded with Security; litigation or investigations experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the CISO's closest legal partner on security programs, policies, controls, and risk decisions.
• Lead and manage external counsel as a hands-on leader.
• Build and lead cybersecurity legal/compliance program across the U.S., with UK/EU coverage.
• Advise on breach notification analysis and SEC disclosures, including Form 8-K and annual 10-K governance disclosures.
• Design incident response playbooks and tabletop exercises, maintaining readiness for ransomware events.
