Job summary

Boston Public Schools seeks a strategic Director of Community Engagement and Communications to guide public relations and stakeholder dialogue around the district's Long-Term Facilities Plan. The role designs authentic engagement processes, builds trusted partnerships with parents, educators, and city agencies, and leads cross-functional teams to inform capital planning decisions.

This role serves as the department's public information officer, manages media interactions, and oversees content

• Ability to drive change without direct reporting relationships and build trust with colleagues.
• Highly organized with capacity to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and independently to deliver results.
• Translate information and data into user-friendly reports and presentations.
• Excellent written and spoken communication with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in digital communications and technology platforms, including Google Suite.

Responsibilities

• Provides high-level leadership in Capital Planning for communications and community engagement around major infrastructure initiatives.
• Develops and implements strategic communications, outreach, and engagement strategies prioritizing inclusivity and transparency.
• Leads annual engagement roadmaps with timelines, milestones, feedback loops, and performance indicators.
• Sets strategic direction for capital planning messaging and acts as public information officer for the department.
• Manages media relations and constituent inquiries in coordination with the Communications team.
• Oversees staff, consultants, interns, and temp workers to meet engagement goals.
• Builds partnerships with community stakeholders and fosters meaningful dialogue with diverse groups.
• Leads workshops, focus groups, and surveys to ensure inclusive input into proposed changes.
• Develops metrics to evaluate engagement impact and uses findings to refine approaches.

Education
