Job description

Senior Business Development Leader – Utility & Infrastructure Engineering

Build the Market. Own the Relationships. Drive the Growth.

A growing engineering and infrastructure services firm is looking for a highly connected, proven business development leader with an established network across the utility, broadband, fiber and infrastructure markets.

This is not a traditional sales role built around cold calling and waiting for leads. The ideal candidate already knows the market, understands how utility and infrastructure projects are awarded, and has relationships that can be turned into real business.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant growth initiative, build a market around your existing relationships, and have a direct impact on the company's revenue and long-term expansion.

The company provides engineering and infrastructure services supporting utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, broadband/fiber providers, EPC firms and other infrastructure stakeholders. With continued investment in grid modernization, broadband expansion, fiber deployment and utility infrastructure, there is significant opportunity for a sales leader who knows where the business is and how to win it.

The Opportunity
Director of Business Development - Utility Engineering & Joint Use

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating new revenue from the ground up—identifying target accounts, opening executive-level relationships, developing opportunities and ultimately converting those relationships into recurring, profitable engineering work.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Leverage your existing utility, telecom and infrastructure relationships to create immediate opportunities.
  • Develop and own a strategic target-account plan across utilities, cooperatives, broadband/fiber providers and EPC organizations.
  • Build relationships with decision-makers who influence engineering, construction and infrastructure spending.
  • Pursue large, recurring opportunities including MSAs, engineering service agreements, RFQs/RFPs, pilot programs and direct-award work.
  • Help expand the company's presence in existing markets while identifying new geographic and service-line opportunities.
  • Work directly with senior leadership and technical teams to shape solutions and pursue opportunities that make both strategic and financial sense.
  • Have meaningful influence over the company's growth strategy rather than simply executing someone else's sales plan.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a true hunter and relationship builder—someone who can walk into an account with credibility, understand the client's challenges and turn conversations into opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An established network within investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, broadband/fiber providers, EPC firms or joint-use organizations.
  • A proven track record selling engineering, professional services or infrastructure solutions into these markets.
  • Strong understanding of joint use, pole attachment, make-ready, pole loading analysis, permitting, distribution engineering, transmission/substation support and/or fiber deployment.
  • Existing relationships with engineering, operations, procurement, sourcing and executive-level decision-makers.
  • A demonstrated ability to personally generate pipeline and win business, rather than relying primarily on inbound leads or marketing.
  • The commercial instincts to identify quality opportunities, understand pricing and protect margins.
  • The ability to build relationships that result in repeat business, expanded accounts and long-term revenue.
What You'll Own
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy across target utility, cooperative, broadband/fiber and infrastructure accounts.
  • Identify high-value prospects and develop relationships from initial introduction through contract award.
  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline with clear account strategies, decision-makers, opportunity values, timing and next steps.
  • Pursue MSAs, engineering service agreements, RFQs/RFPs, pilot programs and direct-award opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and introduce additional engineering capabilities.
  • Partner closely with operations and technical leadership to ensure the business sold is deliverable, scalable and profitable.
  • Maintain disciplined CRM activity and provide clear visibility into pipeline, forecast and business development activity.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, utility meetings, trade organizations and relationship-building events.
Why This Opportunity

For the right sales professional, this is an opportunity to do much more than manage a territory.

You will have the ability to build something.

If you have spent years developing relationships throughout the utility, fiber or infrastructure ecosystem and know where the opportunities are, this role gives you the platform to turn that network into meaningful revenue and long-term growth.

The company is looking for someone who can bring relationships, credibility, market knowledge and a proven ability to win business—and in return, offers the opportunity to play a highly visible role in expanding the business.

  • If you know the utility and infrastructure market, know the players and have a track record of winning professional-services business, this could be an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact.

This role is located in Atlanta, but open to candidates anywhere in the US, with access to a major airport. Compensation package is open for the right candidate, with a mix of a significant base salary and incentive package.
