Overview

A top-tier international law firm is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead growth initiatives across its corporate and transactional practice groups, including corporate & finance, tax, real estate, and bankruptcy. This leadership role, based in either New York or Washington, DC, will report to the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer and play a critical role in revenue generation, client engagement, and strategic expansion. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of high-level strategy, executional excellence, and team leadership to advance the firm’s market presence.

Overview

A top-tier international law firm is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead growth initiatives across its corporate and transactional practice groups, including corporate & finance, tax, real estate, and bankruptcy. This leadership role, based in either New York or Washington, DC, will report to the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer and play a critical role in revenue generation, client engagement, and strategic expansion. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of high-level strategy, executional excellence, and team leadership to advance the firm’s market presence.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with practice group leaders to develop and implement business development strategies focused on revenue growth.
  • Lead the execution of firmwide business development plans, client targeting initiatives, and progress tracking.
  • Manage the firm’s response process for RFPs and pitches, including opportunity identification and proposal development.
  • Oversee industry and sector-specific business development initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and support for attorneys on client engagement and business development best practices.
  • Develop and maintain centralized target lists, client and prospect data, and practice group experience databases.
  • Coordinate integration strategies for new lateral partners from a business development perspective.
  • Support the firm’s involvement in external legal and business networks.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of business development professionals supporting the transactional practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership and stakeholders to align business development efforts with broader firm goals.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading business development in a legal or professional services environment, with a strong understanding of transactional practice areas.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive initiatives from concept to completion.
  • Experience developing RFPs, pitches, and client-focused marketing materials.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and business intelligence tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment across multiple stakeholders.
