Job summary

Midwest Center for Youth and Families is seeking a Director of Assessment/Referral to join our team. The role oversees intake, clinical assessment, and referral processes to ensure timely, accurate evaluations across the program.

You will lead the assessment team, maintain referral relationships with hospitals and schools, and ensure compliance with state licensing, payer guidelines, and accreditation standards. This exempt position follows a 8am–4:30pm schedule.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related behavioral health field is required.
  • Indiana licensure eligible; LMHC, LMFT, or LCAC preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health/residential treatment required.
  • Two years of supervisory or leadership role required.
  • Strong knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, level-of-care, and Indiana behavioral health regulations required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee admissions/intake process from initial contact through assessment and admission decision.
  • Supervise and train assessment/referral staff.
  • Conduct or review clinical/diagnostic assessments to determine appropriate level of care and treatment placement.
  • Develops and maintains referral relationships with hospitals, courts, DCS, probation, schools, and community providers.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, Medicaid requirements, and facility licensing standards.
  • Monitor bed capacity, census, and admission flow to optimize occupancy and resource utilization.
  • Coordinate with clinical, medical, and utilization review teams to support continuity of care.
  • Track and report key performance metrics.
  • Manage crisis/urgent referral situations, including risk assessment for admission appropriateness.
  • Ensure documentation meets regulatory, insurance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to access and admission.
