FTS, in collaboration with a cutting-edge client, is seeking an innovative Director of Analytics to lead their analytics and data science function and help drive the evolution of a growing suite of AI-enabled analytics tools. This is a builder-minded leadership role with an enterprise mandate. You will help shape the vision and direction of the analytics platform, partner closely with Product and regional and business-line stakeholders to decide which models and solutions get built, lead a team of four Data Scientists who build them, and set the broader data and analytics strategy. The organization currently has roughly a dozen analytics and financial tools supporting Employee Benefits, many of which have historically existed as standalone Excel-based models. A major focus of this role will be helping modernize, connect, and scale those capabilities through AI-enabled, web-based solutions. While the initial depth is in Employee Benefits, the long-term vision is to extend these capabilities into additional lines of business, including Property & Casualty and Retirement.
The ideal candidate brings a rare blend of seasoned analytics leadership and modern technical curiosity. You understand the financial side of Employee Benefits — including areas such as underwriting, IBNR, plan design modeling, contribution strategy, budgeting, and financial projections — while also understanding how AI-enabled platforms and modern technologies can transform traditional analytics processes into scalable tools. You do not need to personally code every model or function as an individual contributor, but you should be technically fluent enough to understand what a Data Science team is building, challenge and guide technical decisions, work effectively with Product, and recognize where AI can meaningfully improve how analytics solutions are developed and delivered.
***This is a FULLY REMOTE role***
***Only U.S. Citizens and Green Card Holders are eligible currently
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help drive the vision and evolution of the analytics platform and its growing suite of tools, partnering closely with Product to prioritize opportunities and ensure solutions create measurable business impact.
- Engage regional leaders, consultants, and business-line stakeholders to surface pain points in how they underwrite, model, analyze, and report, and translate those needs into prioritized analytics tools and solutions.
- Guide the modernization of existing financial and analytics models — many historically built and maintained in Excel — into scalable, AI-enabled and web-based solutions.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of analytics solutions, from discovery and prioritization through development, validation, release, user enablement, and iteration based on real usage.
- Serve as an enterprise subject matter expert on benefits financial methodology — medical and Rx underwriting, IBNR and reserve analysis, trend development, large claimant analysis, plan design modeling and repricing, contribution modeling, multi-year projections, stop-loss evaluation, budgeting, and renewal support — ensuring the methods embedded in analytics tools are accurate and defensible.
- Extend the platform's reach beyond Employee Benefits over time, identifying where analytics and AI-enabled tooling can create similar value across additional business lines such as Property & Casualty and Retirement.
- Act as a go-to resource for regional teams on complex client financial questions, including self-funding feasibility, funding strategy, and cost containment, building their capability rather than absorbing the work.
- Evaluate and champion practical uses of AI and generative AI to modernize analytics processes, accelerate development, and embed intelligence into analytics products and models.
- Bring forward-thinking ideas and drive continuous improvement — staying current on emerging AI technologies, platforms, and analytical methods and determining where they can create practical business value.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of four Data Scientists (two senior, two junior), providing the technical and strategic direction needed to raise standards and build a culture of experimentation and rapid delivery.
- Define and execute the enterprise data and analytics strategy, including how data is aggregated, structured, governed, and leveraged across business lines.
- Partner with Product, actuarial, brokerage, consulting, IT, and executive leadership to connect analytics investments to measurable business and client outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements:
- Significant experience in Employee Benefits financial analytics, underwriting, actuarial analysis, or a closely related analytics function within a healthcare brokerage, benefits consulting firm, carrier, or TPA. Brokerage or consulting experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of core benefits financial tools and methodologies, including underwriting, IBNR analysis, trend development, plan design modeling, contribution modeling, budgeting, and financial projections.
- Strong understanding of the Employee Benefits ecosystem and how brokers, carriers, employers, TPAs, and PBMs interact, with the curiosity and business acumen to learn adjacent lines of business.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing Data Scientists, analytics professionals, or similarly technical teams.
- Experience helping shape, prioritize, or deliver analytics products, platforms, models, or internal tools, including working effectively with Product and technical teams.
- Strong technical fluency across analytics and data science. You do not need to be the primary developer, but should understand how analytical models and modern web-based tools are built, be able to engage credibly with technical teams, and provide effective direction.
- Practical exposure to AI and generative AI, with a strong understanding of how AI-enabled platforms and technologies can be used to develop, modernize, or scale analytics tools and workflows.
- Ability to balance innovation with leadership maturity — evaluating emerging technologies while managing teams, priorities, stakeholder expectations, and complex business decisions.
- Proven ability to build trust with regional or field teams and become the person they bring hard problems to.
- Excellent communication skills across technical, Product, consulting, executive, and client-facing audiences, with strong business acumen and a bias toward delivering solutions that get used.
