Job summary

Lazer Technologies, a world-class digital product studio, seeks an senior engineering leader to co-manage our AI engineering team of ~30 Forward Deployed Engineers. You will shape strategy, hire, and drive performance while staying hands-on to read architectures and guide technical decisions.

You will balance leadership with client-facing work, help set evaluation metrics, and mentor engineers. This role offers remote collaboration across borders and significant influence on product outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years directly managing senior engineers.
• Experience leading teams of 15+ engineers, across multiple projects.
• Hands-on technically and able to read architectures and propose improvements.
• Strong full-stack depth with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python or Go.
• Proven experience building production agentic applications and orchestration.
• Experience setting up evaluation harnesses and testing infra.
• Familiarity with MLOps/LLMOps, monitoring and guardrails.
• Comfort with at least one cloud provider (GCP/AWS/Azure).
• AI-native mindset with ability to teach others Credibly.
• Background in consulting/agency/forward deployed engineering.
• Track record of developing people through programs and mentorship.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity and drive clarity.
• Exceptional communication with executives and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Co-own the AI engineering team of roughly 30 forward deployed engineers with leaders.
• Own team health via regular 1:1s and address disengagement or burnout early.
• Lead performance reviews aligned with our FDE rubric balancing consulting and tech skills.
• Elevate Forward Deployed Engineers through training, playbooks, and mentorship.
• Define baseline AI competency and keep it updated with tooling changes.
• Codify best practices into documented patterns and reusable learnings.
• Track engagement health and surface delivery risks early.
• Review architectures and defend approaches to client review boards.
• Provide guidance on evaluation strategy, instrumentation, and impact proof.
• Step in as technical lead on engagements when needed.
• Partner with talent on sourcing and calibrate interviewers; uphold technical bar.
• Staff engagements by mapping engineers to projects based on skill and client needs.
