Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling in Cincinnati is seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee the integrity and timeliness of financial reporting under U.S. GAAP.

You will lead a team that manages the general ledger, close processes, and internal controls while partnering with finance leadership and operations. This high-visibility role directs the accounting function, drives improvements, and coordinates with external auditors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 4+ years in leadership.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and financial reporting expertise.
• Experience with multi-entity organizations and external audits.
• Ability to communicate with senior leadership and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Directs AP, AR, GL, and collections under managers with clear priorities.
• Owns 3–5 year roadmap for accounting; design org and systems growth.
• Manages operating budget including external audit and advisory fees.
• Leads monthly, quarterly, annual close for accurate US GAAP statements.
• Oversees technical accounting: revenue, leases, fixed assets, complex transactions.
• Maintains internal controls and drives remediation of gaps.
• Manages annual audit and coordination with auditors and tax advisors.
• Delivers reporting packages and variance analysis to leadership.
• Drives system and process improvements for efficiency and scalability.
