Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful leadership of an accounting function
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close
• Experience managing and developing accounting teams
• Strong understanding of AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, and cash management
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Transportation, logistics, or distribution industry experience preferred
• Excellent communication with both accounting and operations teams

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management
• Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close with accurate reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, entries, and schedules
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
• Develop the accounting team and set clear performance expectations
• Collaborate with executive and operational leadership on budgets, forecasts, and performance
• Support audits with external CPAs and tax advisors
• Assist with system improvements, integrations, and process automation
• Provide financial insight for growth initiatives and decisions

Job description

Experienced Director of Accounting needed to lead its accounting and financial reporting functions for a mid-size company located near Fontana, Ca. This is an onsite role paying 135k-150k plus bonus. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial information while strengthening accounting processes, controls, and reporting. The ideal candidate brings solid accounting leadership experience within logistics, distribution, or another operationally intensive environment and is comfortable working closely with executive and operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the company's day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and cash management
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
• Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
• Manage and develop the accounting team while establishing clear responsibilities and performance expectations
• Partner with executive and operational leadership on financial results, budgets, forecasts, and business performance
• Analyze operating expenses, fleet-related costs, labor costs, and other key transportation expenses
• Oversee cash flow reporting and working-capital management
• Coordinate external audits and work with outside CPAs, tax advisors, banking partners, and other financial professionals
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting requirements
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting, and strengthen financial controls
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for business leadership
• Assist with accounting system improvements, integrations, and process automation
• Provide financial insight to support growth initiatives and operational decision-making

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Approximately 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful experience leading an accounting function
• Previous experience as a Director of Accounting, Corporate Controller, Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting leadership role
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close
• Experience managing and developing accounting teams
• Strong understanding of AP, AR, payroll accounting, general ledger, fixed assets, and cash management
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Transportation, trucking, logistics, distribution, or related industry experience strongly preferred
• CPA or CMA preferred, but not required
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operations teams
