Job summary

ACCEL Schools LLC seeks a Director of Academics in Dayton, Ohio to lead instructional staff at Montgomery Preparatory Academy. You will guide teachers, review lesson plans, and provide coaching to ensure high-quality instruction and sustained student achievement across EK-8.

Strong data use and collaboration with families are essential. The role requires active teaching certification, five years of classroom experience, and at least two years in instructional leadership.

Qualifications

• Active professional teacher certification.
• Minimum of five years’ experience as a successful teacher.
• Two years’ experience as an Instructional Coach, Teacher Leader, or other related position strongly preferred.
• Track record of building positive working relationships with staff, students, parents, Board members, and authorizers.
• Demonstrated results in increasing student achievement on state tests.
• Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards.
• Experience using data sources to assess and plan instruction.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks.
• Experience in urban and/or school turnaround settings is a plus.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Understanding of confidential information handling.
• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and support the school’s instructional program and staff development.
• Guide teachers in using instructional materials and differentiation strategies.
• Review lesson plans weekly and conduct teacher observations with debriefs.
• Model effective instructional practices and provide feedback and coaching.
• Provide targeted professional development aligned to curriculum and standards.
• Analyze data to identify barriers to achievement and drive instructional improvement.
• Monitor student achievement data to inform instruction and intervention programs.
• Collaborate with parents to foster confidence in the instructional program.
• Coordinate special projects such as peer mentoring and community involvement.
