Job summary

TVCCA - Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. in Mashantucket, CT seeks a Director to oversee the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Child Development Center.

You will plan, direct, and manage budgets, personnel, and contracts while ensuring high-quality early education services and effective communication with TVCCA leadership and tribal partners. The role requires strategic planning, fundraising and grant administration, and collaboration with TVCCA departments and community partners

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field with six years of related experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related experience with a minimum of eight years of related work experience, both with at least four years of supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in early childhood education, knowledge of issues related to school readiness
  • Must have experience working with budgets and grant applications.
  • Strong communication and computer skills required.
  • Must have strong decision making, organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Experience leading and managing employees and multiple projects simultaneously with differing deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day to day operations of the MPTN CDC, including planning, developing, and implementing strategies for the department to meet organizational plans within budget guidelines and time schedules.
  • Overall responsibility for implementation of tribal requirements including implementation of accreditation as directed by the MPTN.
  • Responsible for supervision of the Assistant Director, Managers, Coordinators, and Coaches, as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with TVCCA Little Learners and TVCCA Head Start/Early Head Start program directors to ensure consistent policies, procedures, and processes relating to children, families and employees.
  • Prepare budgets, and apply sound fiscal judgment in the administration of fiscal expenditures. Submit required documentation into the appropriate software/web systems.
  • Works with MPTN officials and CDC staff to successfully develop, implement, and fully integrate tribal cultural lessons, language, values, history, and related subjects into each classroom at the CDC.
  • Prepare program plans for existing programs and ability to create opportunities for new initiatives.
  • Develop and direct procedures for collecting and generating data used in overall operation, monitoring and assessment for long range planning; report required data/metrics to the MPTN and the TVCCA Board of Trustees, via the Chief Operations Officer and CEO, regularly.

Job description

The Director provides overall management in the planning and directing of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (MPTN) Child Development Center (CDC). Works with the TVCCA administration to ensure that holistic, quality education services are delivered at the MPTN CDC. The Director is responsible for the management of the budget, personnel, and contract requirements. Must be comfortable working in a fast paced, deadline driven work environment, have the ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines at all times. Administrative duties include short and long range planning of goals and objectives, overseeing the development and preparation of budgets and reports, supervising, directing and evaluating staff. Responsible for coordinating activities with other TVCCA departments to ensure effective communication. Must develop strong working relationships within the community, and tribal nation. The Director is responsible for reporting to both the TVCCA senior management team and funding sources. Must be comfortable in public speaking; serve as the public face of the center at MPTN representing TVCCA. Develop new partnerships and continue to work with existing community partners in the Early Childhood arena in New London County.

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Develop, monitor and maintain systems to measure programmatic performance against established standards and contractual outcome measures. Take necessary action to communicate, advise, and assist according to performance level data.
  • Collaborate with others within TVCCA and community partners to strategize, develop, and implement programs and concepts to serve our common client base. Create opportunities for collaboration, streamlined service delivery and reduction of duplication of services.
  • Prepare all other reports as required by funding sources and TVCCA.
  • Handle several tasks at one time and work under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
  • Effectively understand and address the challenges facing clients and their families.
  • Responsible for coordinating activities with other TVCCA departments to foster collaboration to benefit families.
  • Produce and maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and plans as needed.
  • Adhere to, promote and enforce TVCCA policies, procedures, mission, and philosophy.
  • Attend statewide and other meetings as necessary; comply with agency meeting schedules and all contractually required meetings.
  • Participate in trainings; attend all meetings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Stay informed as to relevant skills and qualification levels required by staff for effective performance. Develop and motivate staff, train, recruit and select for available positions.
  • Operate a computer and have operational knowledge of active software.
  • Serve as an advocate for the clients of TVCCA.
  • Perform additional tasks to meet the needs of the program and agency.
