Job summary

Thames Valley Council for Community Action is seeking an Assistant Director to oversee the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Child Development Center. Qualifications

Job description

Provide leadership and direction in the overall supervision, administration, fiscal management and daily operations of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (MPTN) Child Development Center (CDC). Develop a strong working knowledge and background in developmentally appropriate practices, quality operations and accreditation requirements. The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of the CDC, which includes direct supervision of management staff, coaches, and coordinators, budgeting, approving all ordering and expenditures. This position supports the Director in the completion of duties. Participate in community collaborations that help support the CDC. Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program by attending both early morning and evening meetings/functions when needed.Required SkillsBachelor’s Degree in Early Education, with emphasis in birth to five years, or related field with at least five years of related work experience, at least three of which were supervisory; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Current driver’s license, good driving record and reliable, insured vehicle.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.Strong mathematical skills.Possess strong organizational skills, with demonstrated abilities in problem solving and efficient in time management.Exhibit sensitivity to needs of different cultures and families.Required ExperienceWorks with the Director on oversight of implementation of program operations in relationship to daily, weekly and monthly obligations.Assume the role of Director in his/her absence.Supervise and evaluate management and teaching staff on an on-going basis throughout the calendar year.Provide strong team leadership. Promote open communication among staff and supervision to achieve a positive work environment.Make decisions as part of a team that involves daily operations and planning of the Child Development program.Assist in preparation and implementation of annual program plans in accordance with the standards of operation.Coordinate and maintain contracts and leases related to the operation of the MPTN CDC.Assist with establishing a system of ongoing communication with the various community agencies and public schools in New London County as required.Develop a strong supportive approach to staff achieving results through team work. Provide coaching, employee development and in service training(s).Complete yearly staff performance appraisals. Monitor and coordinate corrective action as necessary.Ensure that communication exists at all levels within the program.Work with managers and staff to ensure that professional goals have been met.Ensure that proper recruiting, hiring, orientation and training of staff.Participate, evaluate and analyze the process of continuous improvement.Prepare and present monthly reports as needed.Operate program software systems.Maintain accuracy and efficiency of all records and reports as required though computer spreadsheets.Create, work with, and be responsible for program budget.Write program policy and procedures. Be organized and have the ability to problem solve.Sit/stand for periods of time up to seven hours; travel to meet program needs.Work in a deadline driven environment, deal with crisis management, perform several functions concurrently to meet demands of program.Display neat and clean appearance in accordance with dress codeExhibit the personal qualities to work with staff and advocate for children and families in the community at large.Attend training workshops and meetings as required.Maintain professional manner at all times.Maintain and demonstrate a positive attitude; establish good working relations with administrative staff and coworkers.Have available reliable transportation; report to work on time.Take on additional tasks as required to maintain program and agency operations.Adhere to TVCCA Policies/Procedures, Pledge of Quality, and Code of Ethics.
