Job summary

Athene is seeking a Director of Model Risk to lead the oversight of enterprise model risk, reporting to the VP Operational Risk & Change Management. You will coordinate validation work, manage the model inventory, and collaborate with actuarial, finance, risk, tax, and audit teams.

The role requires 7+ years in actuarial, financial, or risk models, with a strong ability to drive compliance with policy and regulatory expectations. Outstanding communication and strategic thinking are essential.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years of experience with insurance actuarial, financial or risk models as developer/validator.
• Strong analytical and technical skills with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Oversee adherence to the Model Risk Policy and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate the Model Risk Management working group and coordinate input to closure.
• Build relationships across functions to foster model risk awareness and a strong risk culture.
• Manage model inventory and ensure accuracy in the model risk system.
• Oversee independent validations or perform validations when needed.
• Challenger to first-line model owners and developers.
• Report model risk updates to internal committees and external regulators where required.
