Job summary

Highpoint Health Sumner in Gallatin, TN is seeking a Director Medical Surgical RN to lead the department and ensure exceptional patient care and operational excellence.

You will direct staffing, budgeting, quality metrics, and regulatory compliance while fostering professional growth and teamwork across the unit. This is a full-time, days-shift role requiring TN RN licensure and a BSN; a master's degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • Active Tennessee or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Directs department activities and resources to achieve objectives.
  • Develops and implements goals, plans, and standards.
  • Directs operations including patient care delivery, information systems, and quality control.
  • Plans staffing, hiring, orientation, evaluation, and continuing education.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets; coordinates internal/external audits.
  • Fosters professional growth and implements evidence-based practices.
  • Ensures regular attendance and performs other duties as assigned.

How You'll Contribute

Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Regular and reliable attendance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors.

Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information.

Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensures quality standards. Responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Master Degree, preferred
  • BLS
  • Licenses: Must have an active Tennessee or compact state Registered Nursing license
Skills and Abilities

Business Mathematical Skills -- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.

Moderate Computer Skills -- Frequent use of electronic mail, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, graphics, etc. Ability to create, maintain and incorporate simple functions into documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations to support business objectives.

Varied Business Problems -- Problems are varied and complex, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation. Problems are solved using knowledge and skills, general precedent and practices.
