Job summary

Mercer Advisors seeks a Director to expand its Business Transitions practice serving business owners and executives through M&A transactions. You’ll work at the intersection of banking, law and financial planning, translating terms into actionable, tax-aware planning.

In this role you’ll partner with bankers, attorneys and Mercer advisors to lead deal execution and post-close transitions, traveling as needed to cover multiple markets. Strong deal experience and credentials are required.

Qualifications

• 8 to 15 years of experience working directly on M&A transactions.
• Ability to understand and communicate deal structure, valuation, and mechanics.
• Direct experience advising privately held business owners, founders or executives.
• Ability to operate as a generalist across deal dynamics, tax implications and planning.
• Strong relationship instincts and ability to earn referral business.
• Comfort with ambiguity and deal complexity; adaptable to changing scenarios.
• Series 65 required, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire; CFP/CFA/CPA/JD a plus.
• Bachelor's degree; MBA, JD, or advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work directly on live transactions with Mercer’s advisory team across tax, estate, and planning.
• Interface with clients' bankers, attorneys, and accountants to test deal structure.
• Model after tax proceeds in real time as terms evolve.
• Support deal teams and anchor conversations with a credible deal voice.
• Lead structured handoffs to Mercer advisors at close for seamless wealth management.
• Grow the Business Transitions practice across target markets.
• Build COI networks and develop referral relationships over a long cycle.
