Expedia Group in Seattle seeks a Director, Indirect Tax Operations & Controversy to lead day-to-day indirect tax compliance, data, controversy, and technology-enabled operations across U.S. and international markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Law, or related field.
• Typically 12–14+ years of indirect tax, tax operations, tax controversy, tax technology experience.
• Significant experience with U.S. state and local indirect taxes and international VAT/GST.
• Experience leading complex compliance processes across multiple jurisdictions and entities.
• Experience leading tax audits or controversy matters and communicating risk/outcomes.
• Experience translating tax requirements into practical processes and technology solutions.
• Strong analytical capability with large data sets and tax accounting information.
• Proficiency with AI and tools like Excel, Oracle/ERP, Power BI/ Tableau, Power Automate, UiPath, or tax engines.
• CPA/CA or equivalent credential strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day U.S. and international indirect tax compliance.
• Establish scalable processes, calendars, controls, and review standards.
• Use tax data/analytics to identify exceptions and improve data quality.
• Lead controversy for global indirect tax matters and audits.
• Collaborate with Tax Controversy, Finance, Accounting, Legal and business teams.
• Guide Tax team’s advisory and projects function for business initiatives.
• Shape tax technology strategy with cross-functional partners.
• Advance automation and analytics to scale indirect tax operations.
• Monitor regulatory changes and implement required updates.
• Provide concise recommendations to Tax leadership and partners.
• Build cross-geography relationships within a high-trust culture.
