Job summary

Expedia Group seeks a Director of Indirect Tax Operations & Controversy to lead U.S. and international indirect tax compliance, controversy, and technology-enabled operations.

You will own processes, data integrity, and cross-system delivery across global markets while partnering with Tax, Finance, Legal, and Product teams. You will drive automation, data analytics, and scalable controls to ensure accurate filings, timely payments, and strong audit defense.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Law, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• Typically 12–14+ years of indirect tax, tax operations, tax controversy, or tax technology experience in public accounting or corporate tax.
• Significant experience with U.S. state and local indirect taxes and international VAT/GST, digital services tax, or related taxes.
• Experience leading or supervising complex compliance across multiple jurisdictions and data sources.
• Experience leading audits or controversy matters, including information requests and audit outcomes.
• Ability to translate tax requirements into practical processes, data, controls, and technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day U.S. and international indirect tax compliance across jurisdictions and business models.
• Establish scalable processes, calendars, documentation, controls, and review standards for filings and reporting.
• Use tax data and analytics to identify exceptions, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead global indirect tax controversy, including audit intake, planning, and communication with auditors.
• Collaborate with Tax Controversy, Finance, Legal, and business teams to manage risk and communicate outcomes.
• Lead Tax team advisory projects, delivering requirements and risk mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
• Shape tax technology strategy with Tax Technology, Product, Engineering, and Finance Systems teams.
• Advance automation and data governance to improve traceability and scalability of operations.
• Monitor regulatory changes and guide implementation across systems and processes.
• Provide clear recommendations to Tax leadership balancing accuracy, practicality, and risk.
• Build cross-geography collaboration within the Global Tax team.
