Job summary

Nexus Health Systems is seeking an experienced Director of Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI). This strategic role oversees HIM, CDI, and revenue-cycle initiatives across the system, ensuring compliant documentation, accurate coding, and robust information governance.

The position emphasizes leadership development, staff coaching, and collaboration with Compliance, IT, Billing, and Clinical Operations to enhance record integrity and DNFB performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field.
• CDI or coding certification preferred.
• Progressive leadership experience in HIM, CDI, coding, revenue cycle, or related healthcare function.
• RHIA or RHIT credential strongly preferred.
• Experience overseeing HIM operations and leading teams in hospital or multi-facility healthcare environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for HIM and CDI functions across Nexus Health Systems.
• Direct daily HIM operations including medical record completion, deficiency management, release of information, and coding support.
• Lead, develop, and evaluate HIM staff, including staffing, workload distribution, and performance expectations.
• Establish standardized policies, workflows, and quality measures across the organization.
• Serve as the HIM subject-matter expert for medical record integrity, documentation, disclosure, coding support, and information governance.
• Evaluate technology and workflows to improve productivity and revenue cycle performance.
• Lead CDI program with concurrent and retrospective documentation reviews.
• Identify documentation gaps and opportunities for greater specificity; initiate compliant provider queries when needed.
• Educate physicians and staff on documentation requirements and coding implications.
• Partner with Coding to support accurate diagnosis and procedure assignment and DRG validation.
• Ensure provider queries are compliant and non-leading.
