What You’ll Do
LILT is seeking a Director of FP&A to continue building out and leading our financial planning and analysis function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the CFO, this high-impact role will own budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, KPI tracking, and strategic planning across the business. You will partner closely with leadership to drive financial insights, shape decision-making, and help scale LILT through its next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and own the FP&A function — design scalable processes, tools, and reporting frameworks from scratch.
- Strategic Planning: Lead the company’s annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning cycles.
- Business Partnering: Work closely with department heads (Sales, Marketing, Product, Services) to drive financial accountability and optimize investment decisions.
- Board and Investor Reporting: Support the CFO in preparing board decks, investor updates, and strategic analyses.
- Financial Modeling: Create and maintain dynamic models for revenue, expenses, headcount, cash runway, and SaaS metrics (CAC, LTV, NRR, etc.).
- KPI Development: Define, track, and analyze company-wide KPIs, and proactively surface insights and recommendations.
- Scenario Planning: Develop "what-if" analyses to support strategic decisions, pricing changes, geographic expansion, M&A, and other initiatives.
- Systems and Automation: Evaluate and implement FP&A systems and tools as the company grows.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Be the go-to resource for deep dives on customer profitability, margin optimization, pricing models, and operational efficiencies.
Skills And Experience
- 8+ years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally with a mix of high-growth SaaS and Services exposure.
- Strong background building FP&A functions from scratch in fast-paced, venture-backed environments — you’ve done this before and know how to navigate ambiguity.
- Expertise in SaaS metrics (ARR, churn, CAC, LTV, payback period, etc.), understanding of Services business models, KPIs, and financial frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and board-level reporting.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail, but equally capable of thinking strategically.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets; familiarity with FP&A tools (e.g., Mosaic, Pigment, Anaplan, Adaptive) is a plus.
- Executive-ready communication skills — comfortable presenting insights and recommendations to Executive-level audiences and the Board.
- Self-starter with a bias toward action, solution-oriented mindset, and desire to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail, but equally capable of high-level strategic thinking.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA is a plus.
Success In 6 Months
- Established Core FP&A Processes: Built a dynamic, company-wide financial model, operating budget, and forecasting cadence.
- First-Class Reporting: Delivered actionable, high-quality monthly reporting packages and KPIs to the executive team and Board.
- Strategic Partner to the Business: Developed trusted relationships with key functional leaders; deeply embedded in their operating plans and decision-making processes.
- Insight Generation: Produced financial insights that shaped pricing, go-to-market strategies, hiring plans, and resource allocations.
- Future-Ready Infrastructure: Identified and kicked off implementation of the right FP&A systems/tools to enable scale into the next growth phase.
- Predictability & Control: Increased organizational financial predictability and improved budget discipline across the business.
Our Story
Our founders, Spence and John met at Google working on Google Translate. As researchers at Stanford and Berkeley, they both worked on language technology to make information accessible to everyone. They were amazed to learn that Google Translate wasn’t used for enterprise products and services inside the company and left to start a new company to address this need – LILT.
At its core, LILT has always been a machine learning company since its incorporation on March 6, 2015. At the time, machine translation didn’t meet the quality standard for enterprise translations, so LILT assembled a cutting-edge research team tasked with closing that gap. While meeting customer demand for translation services, LILT has prioritized investments in Large Language Models, believing that this foundation was imperative to the future of enterprise translation.
