Job summary

Abacus Group is seeking a Director, Financial Control (Banking) to join their Jersey City, NJ team. The role partners with the U.S. Controller to drive strategic initiatives, oversee month-end close, and ensure rigorous financial reporting under US GAAP and IFRS.

Responsibilities include coordinating across U.S. banking entities, managing internal/external audits, and leading finance transformation initiatives with automation and analytics.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in financial control or accounting.
• Banking industry experience is required.
• Big 4 or combination of Big 4 and industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the U.S. Controller to support strategic initiatives, governance activities, and key business objectives.
• Coordinate accounting, reporting, and controllership activities across U.S. banking entities and head office stakeholders.
• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Direct the preparation of financial statements, disclosures, and regulatory reporting per US GAAP and IFRS.
• Manage internal and external audit relationships, including audit planning, execution, and remediation of issues.
• Safeguard the integrity of financial records, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex transactions and new products.
• Champion finance transformation with automation, ERP enhancements, analytics, and AI-driven improvements.
• Cultivate high-performing teams through coaching, succession planning, performance management, and development.
• Promote innovation, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement while supporting change initiatives.
