Job summary

The Fredericksburg Nationals are seeking a motivated and hardworking Groundskeeper to manage the agronomic program for Virginia Credit Union Stadium. This role will supervise daily maintenance of the playing surface and all ballpark greenspaces, ensuring top quality conditions for baseball events.

You will plan projects, budget and forecast, hire and train staff, and coordinate with vendors and event teams to support high school, college, and non-baseball events.

• Ability to communicate clearly with staff, coaches and players.
• Must be physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Proficiency in operating turf related equipment and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily maintenance of Virginia Credit Union Stadium playing surface and ballpark greenspaces.
• Plan agronomic program, budgeting, forecasting and payroll coordination; manage equipment and irrigation.
• Hire, train, and schedule staff for events; organize daily work lists for staff.
• Manage materials inventory and vendor relationships; ensure safety and quality standards.
• Facilitate additional on-field events and coordinate with teams and event staff.

This role will oversee the daily maintenance of the playing surface and all ballpark greenspaces.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdministrative and managerial oversight of the department:Planning for projects (conversions and cultural practices)Budgeting and forecasting, including approving payroll and payroll allocation keeping equipment and irrigation in good working orderHiring, training, and scheduling staff for events organizing daily work list for staffManaging materials inventoryManaging relationships with outside vendorsGeneral duties include, but are not limited to: mowing, fertilizing, maintaining and rebuilding pitching mounds and home plate areas, dragging and moisture management of infield skin, field marking, edging, aerating, topdressing, verticutting, replacing sod, and tarpingFacilitate additional on-field events such as high school and college baseball games, and non-baseball events.Communicate clearly and work well with fellow employees, coaches, and playersOther duties as assignedDegree in Turfgrass Management is requiredMultiple years of experience working on highly maintained athletic surfacesSafely operate and perform maintenance on turf related equipment and machineryMust have high attention to detail and take pride in quality of workMaintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all timesFlexibility to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and some holidaysMust be able to engage in strenuous activity including lifting up to 75 lbs.Capable of working in variable weather conditions including extreme heat and rain showers
