Job summary

Queens Public Library seeks a Director of Facilities - Operations Center to oversee system-wide custodial services, lead during emergencies, and ensure safe, clean, accessible facilities. On-call 24/7 and partner with Library Services, Risk Management, and contractors to coordinate operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 10+ years custodial/facilities management experience, including 5+ years supervising multi-site ops.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience supervising large unionized workforce.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Budget preparation/administration and vendor management.
• OSHA/EPA compliance and green cleaning initiatives.
• Emergency preparedness and response.
• Inventory, equipment lifecycle management, and procurement.
• Labor relations and collective bargaining administration.
• Reporting to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

• Oversees system-wide custodial operations to keep buildings clean, safe, and accessible.
• Provides on-site leadership during emergencies and weather events, including snow removal.
• Manages the Facilities and Environmental Services budget and oversees vendor performance.
• Leads and develops multifunctional teams and coordinates with other departments.
• Ensures compliance with OSHA/EPA standards and implements green cleaning programs.
• Prepares reports for executive leadership and tracks project status.
