Position Objective

The position is responsible for the strategic direction, organization, planning, leadership, and control of department-level human resources and assets. These efforts help maintain a safe and comfortable physical environment for hospital staff, patients, and the public. The role involves developing departmental strategic plans and ensuring the achievement of short and long-term goals in collaboration with other teams.

The position has direct responsibility for leading facilities operational administration, managing physical assets, operational budgets, tactical plans, policies, and regulatory compliance. It requires establishing productive relationships with various departments and stakeholders, serving as the Life Safety Officer, and chairing the Environment of Care Committee.

Essential Job Duties
  • Develop a shared vision for the Department. Lead project planning, infrastructure programming, construction quality control, renovation, major equipment purchases, and project commissioning, while minimizing risks.
  • Create operating plans to ensure efficiency and reduce downtime. Support planning for new facilities or redesigns, maintaining project schedules and budgets. Lead or support project planning, infrastructure programming, construction quality control, and commissioning.
  • Ensure a safe environment that promotes service excellence and complies with accreditation and regulatory standards through policies, preventative maintenance, and work order programs.
  • Participate in or lead relevant committees such as the Environment of Care, Safety, and Emergency Preparedness.
  • Foster workforce recruitment, retention, and professional development. Mentor staff and serve as a role model for leadership, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Build relationships that support the organization’s culture of respect, inclusion, and safety. Promote transparency and open communication with all stakeholders.
  • Manage departmental budgets and develop strategic equipment plans aligned with the organization’s capital planning.
Educational/Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Healthcare Management, Business Administration, with coursework in Healthcare and Project Management.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 8 years in a healthcare system with increasing management responsibilities.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, conceptual, and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful project management experience.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
Required License/Certifications
  • Preferred: CHFM, CBET or similar certifications.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license with no more than two points.
