Job summary

Qualifications

  • 7-12+ years experience in ESG, sustainability, corporate responsibility, risk, or related domains.
  • Deep understanding of ESG frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, ISSB, CDP).
  • Strong program management skills and comfort working in matrixed organizations.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to navigate ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, refine, and implement a multi-year ESG strategy aligned to priorities.
  • Lead materiality assessments and translate findings into actionable goals.
  • Oversee ESG disclosures, regulatory reporting, and data governance.
  • Develop KPIs across ESG pillars and manage dashboards and analytics.
  • Engage with investors, rating agencies, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead cross-functional ESG councils and governance structures.

The Director, ESG is responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance strategy. This role provides leadership in sustainability initiatives, regulatory reporting, stakeholder engagement, and enterprise-wide ESG integration. The leader partners with senior executives, functional leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure that ESG strategies and priorities enable business growth, enterprise risk management, and brand reputation.

Responsibilities

ESG Strategy & Leadership

Develop, refine, and implement a multi-year ESG strategy aligned to corporate priorities and stakeholder expectations.

  • Lead ESG materiality assessments and translate findings into actionable goals.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to embed ESG considerations into business operations, risk management, talent strategy, procurement, and product development.

Reporting & Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee preparation of all ESG related disclosures, including sustainability reports, annual ESG scorecards, and impact summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with emerging regulations (e.g., SEC climate disclosure rules, CSRD, ISSB frameworks).
  • Manage data governance, audit processes, and internal controls for ESG metrics.

Performance Management

  • Develop KPIs across environmental, social, and governance pillars; manage dashboards, analytics, and year-over-year performance tracking.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain Operations, HR, and Risk Management to ensure high-quality data collection and reporting.
  • Benchmark company ESG performance against peers and industry frameworks.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert and spokesperson in ESG topics with internal and external audiences.
  • Engage with investors, rating agencies (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics), and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional ESG councils, working groups, and leadership forums.

Environmental & Social Program Management

  • Lead key initiatives such as carbon reduction plans, DEI strategy integration, community impact, ethical supply chain programs, or responsible sourcing.
  • Partner with Facilities, Operations, and Procurement on sustainability initiatives (energy, waste, water, supplier risk, etc.).

Governance & Risk Oversight

  • Ensure strong governance structures around ESG policies, ethical practices, and board-level reporting.
  • Assess climate‑and sustainability‑related risks and integrate them into enterprise risk management frameworks.
  • Support the board of directors with ESG dashboards, materials, and emerging risk briefings.
Qualifications

  • Executive presence with strong influencing and partnership capabilities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to transparency, ethics, and stakeholder service.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable business plans.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries preferred (financial services, energy, retail, supply chain, healthcare, etc.).
  • Familiarity with investor relations, corporate strategy, or change management preferred.
  • Experience leading cross-functional ESG initiatives with measurable outcomes preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred (MBA, MPA, MS Sustainability).
