Job summary

Nscale is seeking a Director, Legal – Energy to lead US power procurement for our hyperscale data centre campuses. You will negotiate PPAs, interconnection and energy service agreements, manage complex contracts, and coordinate with real estate, construction, and finance teams.

This role reports to the VP, Legal – Infrastructure (US). Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in energy and major project law, strong negotiating skills, and experience across US jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of legal experience in energy, power, infrastructure or major projects.
• Strong track record negotiating complex energy and power arrangements.
• Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical projects.
• Experience working across multiple US jurisdictions and managing local counsel.

Responsibilities

• Lead negotiation of power procurement, utility supply, interconnection and transmission service arrangements for US data centre campuses.
• Draft and negotiate PPAs, energy supply agreements and related certificates or structures.
• Negotiate on-site and behind-the-meter generation, storage, microgrids, and critical power infrastructure.
• Support interconnection programs, capacity reservation, network upgrades, and related risk allocations.
• Advise on pricing, commitments, delay remedies, credit support and termination rights.
• Coordinate with real estate, construction, procurement, finance and operations teams.
• Support site acquisition by assessing power availability and energy-related risks.
• Maintain and improve energy procurement templates and contracting positions across jurisdictions.
• Run counterparty comment rounds and establish common house positions.
• Coordinate insurance, guarantees and bonding with insurance team; align with lender requirements for project-financed sites.
• Manage US outside counsel and monitor regulatory developments relevant to energy procurement.
