Job summary

Pivotal Systems is seeking a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety to lead the EH&S function across engineering, manufacturing, and R&D operations. This role sets safety vision, manages regulatory compliance, and oversees gas lab operations for semiconductor equipment development and testing.

You will build scalable programs, lead a high-performing team, and drive KPIs for incidents, audits, and corrective actions, reporting to executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EH&S, Chemical/Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 12+ years of progressive EH&S experience, including 4+ years in leadership, ideally in semiconductor/ capital equipment.
• Deep expertise in process/specialty gas handling, gas lab operations, and safety systems.
• Strong command of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and local regulatory frameworks.
• Experience building or scaling EH&S organization, including budget ownership and team leadership.
• Executive-level communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own EH&S strategy, policies, and culture aligned with growth.
• Lead and develop the EH&S team; plan headcount and mentoring.
• Own EH&S budget, capital safety infrastructure, and compliance systems.
• Serve as executive contact for OSHA regulators; lead inspections and permitting.
• Report safety performance, risk exposure, and compliance to leadership and board.
• Establish company-wide KPIs for incident rates and audit readiness.
• Oversee gas lab safety systems and vendor relationships for gases.
• Partner with Engineering/Facilities on gas lab layout and capital projects.
• Embed safety into product design, test protocols, and production scale-up.
• Lead emergency response planning and cross-functional ERT.
