Job summary

Connecticut State Department of Education seeks an Education Bureau Chief for Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities to oversee the Office of Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities and ensure compliance with educator preparation programs and certification requirements.

The ideal candidate will lead the development of evidence-based literacy competencies, oversee staff, and collaborate with state boards, educators, and community partners to advance structured literacy initiatives and reading assessments

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in education or leadership with appropriate state certification
• Experience overseeing an educational bureau or equivalent operations
• Knowledge of dyslexia instruction and literacy program development

Responsibilities

• Directs the Office of Dyslexia and Reading Disabilities and oversees compliance with licensure and program standards
• Develops and updates competency targets for structured literacy
• Leads policy review and collaboration with education boards and program providers
• Develops model in-service training for local/regional boards of education
• Coordinates assessment development to identify at-risk students
